About this route
The Premužić Trail is one of Croatia's most celebrated mountain paths — hand-built in the 1930s by engineer Ante Premužić, threading through the wild heart of Sjeverni Velebit National Park. This is not a trail for tourists. It's a trail for people who want to feel genuinely small.
Limestone karst stretches in every direction. Dwarf pine presses against the path. The silence is the kind you remember. On clear mornings, the Adriatic glitters far below to the west, and the ridges of Bosnia rise beyond the eastern horizon.
We approach the northern section as a two-day traverse, spending a night at mountain hut Zavižan — one of the highest weather stations in Croatia, staffed by people who've seen every kind of weather the Velebit can throw at you.
